across all our programs, training events, materials, community and social events, so that currently marginalized therapists from all backgrounds feel welcomed and reflected in our organization and our activities.
We are committed to learning about and implementing ways to make the EFT Center of Los Angeles and the EFT therapeutic community anti-racist and anti-oppression, embracing and accessible to therapists of all races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual/affectional orientations and gender expressions, ability levels, ages and language backgrounds. We strive to cultivate a community where Black, African-American, Brown and all Persons of Color thrive.
We acknowledge that the EFT community of Los Angeles has been late to the work to be anti-racist, and are devoted to taking meaningful action.
Our eyes have opened wider to the injustices and inequities in our community that have been harmful to Persons of Color, and especially to Black and African American people.
We embrace a stance of cultural humility and responsiveness, and value open inquiry and dialogue in efforts to further evolve the practice and teaching of EFT to be culturally and racially attuned and sensitive.
We are committed to reflecting in earnest on the self of the therapist, self of the supervisor, and self of the trainer as it pertains to race and culture and its impact on the therapeutic encounter and process, supervision encounter and process, and training and teaching of the EFT model.
There is much work to be done, and we recognize the need for action towards our mission.
The EFT Center of Los Angeles is taking action through :
Seeking consultation with Black leaders, supervisors and colleagues and leaders of color
Offering programming dedicated to examining race, identity, and culture in the EFT model.
Creating a process to address microaggressions that may occur in EFT Trainings and Center events.
Providing microaggression workshops that all training team members are required to participate in.
Providing accessible training and supervision for therapists of color through equity pricing for programming and fellowships for training.
Devoting time and resources to promote Black and Brown leadership through mentorship and supervision.
Donating a portion of the EFT Center of Los Angeles’s proceeds to community organizations dedicated to social justice.
We believe change is possible, and requires leaning into difficult and sometimes uncomfortable conversations and processes.
As a collective of EFT therapists, honoring relationships and our shared humanity is at the core of our values. We are stronger together.
